174 accidents reported during new year

A total of 175 accidents were reported during the new year days and 145 of them involved males, Colombo National Hospital sources said.

Accordingly, only one incident was reported relating to injuries caused by the use of fire crackers.

However, there has been a significant reduction in injuries due to the use of fireworks.

It was also said that there was a lack of use of firecrackers during this season when compared to others.

Overspeeding, reckless driving, defing traffic rules are the main causes of accidents, some drivers drive well after taking a drink, liquor at a reasonable quantity could be allowed.

The Road accidents and Daily Gun shooting death incidents have become a daily phenomen in Sri Lanka and Government has not taken any serious measures to arrest this phenomenon.When the whole of Muslim Community was suspected of backing Zahran Hashim , each and every household were searched for weapons . So when Daylight gun trotting Murders are free to murder anyone, why the Security Agencies agencies not searching every nook and corners of suspected areas for weapons? Why stringent traffic servailance are not put in place to stop or reduce traffic accidents.

More than driving rules, most drivers are very selfish. This is a clear demonstration of self centered and selfish behaviour. There is no one thinking that roads are for common use.
