Foreign Ministry to summon Canadian envoy over sanctions

The Foreign Ministry will summon the Canadian envoy today to register its strongest protest over the issuing of targeted sanctions on four Sri Lankan officials including former leaders Mahinda Rajapaksa and Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Sri Lanka's Foreign Ministry said it is rejecting the Canadian position and says it is harmful to the local reconciliation process.(Kelum Bandara)

It is a body comprising companies such as Amazon, Apple, Booking.com, Expedia Group, Google, GoTo, Grab, LINE, LinkedIn, Meta, Rakuten, X and Yahoo.

There is no progress what so ever on the local reconciliation process. The talks between Tamil Leaders and Prez/Ministers apparently failed yesterday due to reluctance in implementing agreed aspects.

Division of the country was avoided by primarily rural youth giving their lives. Now it is going to happen anyway due to mega corruption and mismanagement by politicians and professionals (who goth their education free of charge) as well as unaffordable lifestyles of the rupee rich. A country which did not go bankrupt during the long and dollar expensive war, these deplorables managed to bankrupt after the war.

How will it impact the country today and in the future when two FORMER leaders are sanctioned? These two are civilians and have no decision making powers. If Canada really wanted to make an impact they could have sanctioned them when they were in power. A little too late now. Also protesting this is just drama. It's not like they have Canadian interests anyway.
