Onesh’s Brazilian wife had threatened him on several occasions in SL
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) who are investigating the death of billionaire businessman Onesh Subasinghe who was found dead in a serviced apartment in Jakarta recently revealed that the businessman had been threatened with death on several occasions in Sri Lanka allegedly by his Brazilian wife.
Earlier, the IGP has instructed the Director CID to launch a probe into the death of the Managing Director of OPEX Holdings and billionaire businessman Subasinghe based on the possibility that the plot to murder the businessman may have been planned in Sri Lanka, even though it was executed in Indonesia.
Accordingly, the CID has gathered crucial findings into the death in addition to the ongoing investigations by the Indonesian law enforcement authorities.
Sources said that CID officers had visited Subasinghe's residence in Colombo and recorded several statements from the domestic staff at the residence. It was reported that the CID had obtained fingerprint samples and sent them for testing. The officers had also obtained several items from the house for forensic analysis.
During the questioning of the domestic staff at the residence, the investigators had been told that there had been several disputes between Onesh and his Brazilian wife.
They reportedly informed the officers that Onesh’s wife had threatened him with death on those occasions. She had reportedly tried to take the daughter and travel to Brazil on many occasions. However, Onesh’s had reportedly objected to those attempts.
Subasinghe was on vacation in Jakarta with his Brazilian wife Rosa, and her assistant who is also a Brazilian woman and their 4-year-old daughter. Due to his secretary being unable to contact Subasinghe on 2nd February, his family had inquired from the service apartment management after which the staff had entered the apartment and found his body.
On February 2, following his death, his wife Rosa and the other woman had left the apartment along with Onesh’s daughter and all their belongings. The duo were seen on CCTV putting up the 'do not disturb' sign on the door.
It was reported that Subasinghe’s wife and her assistant had fled Indonesia and headed to Doha, taking with them Onesh’s four-year-old daughter from where they had flown to São Paulo, Brazil.
Sources said that CID would seek INTERPOL assistance to arrest Subasinghe's wife and her assistant.
CID officers are likely to travel to Jakarta next week to conduct investigations along with the assistance of the Interpol and Indonesian Police.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
