 Nine fasting inmates at the Thaldena Open Prison Rehabilitation Centre in Badulla escaped early yesterday morning.

Prisons spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said the officials at the open prison had apprehended six escapees.

The prison superintendent is conducting an investigation and a search operation has also been launched to find the remaining inmates, he said.   

It is a body comprising companies such as Amazon, Apple, Booking.com, Expedia Group, Google, GoTo, Grab, LINE, LinkedIn, Meta, Rakuten, X and Yahoo.
